I am fifteen. I have grown up with domestic violence between my dad and mum. Sometimes I’m caught in the middle. I don’t like feeling pressured to take sides. I just wish the fighting would stop.
I’ve also had to deal with bullying at school and at times I’ve found it hard to control my temper.
The student wellbeing coordinator at school organised me to go to a counsellor at a youth service about a year ago. I didn’t want to go but it has actually been ok. The counsellor has taught me how to deal with stress.
My parents have got counselling too so they can sort out their problems.
My counsellor has made me understand that only I can control myself and my own behaviour. She helps me to deal with anger so I don’t overreact to people.
She believes in me, which has helped me to believe in myself even when others don’t.
